The mother of Shanice Osborne has spoken to out for the first time since her botched abortion in July 2006. The 21 year old Catholic, Sycloria Williams, agreed to an exclusive with The Florida Catholic, to tell her side of the story, the real story, that has recently attracted attention nationally.
Williams has filed a civil lawsuit against the staff of A GYN, in Hialeah Florida, after they delivered her baby girl, dropped her into a bio hazard bag, and threw her into the garbage, killing her.
Williams says that abortion was never really part of the plan. "But as time passed it became an option,"she explained to journalist and photographer Daniel Soñé, with whom the interview was with.
Initially, she was told that she was 23 weeks along, at the Mirimar Women Center, Inc. When she met with Dr. Pierre Jean-Jacque Renelique on July 19, 2006 he said that it was an easy 2 day procedure. "just take medicine and come back tomorrow," she remembers him saying " just like 1,2,3." Before she left he inserted thin rods of dried kelp, laminaria sticks, which make the cervix dilate. The Medicine was Cytotec, meant to induce labor.
After leaving the clinic, Williams received a call from the Clinic Owner's Daughter, Natali Vergara, telling her to go to the clinic in Hialeah named A GYN instead of the one in Miami.
When she arrived the next morning at the clinic, she was given her second dose of Cytotec and she returned to the car to wait with her, then boyfriend, Shane, until the drug began to work. He had said on the way he did not want to go through with it, but she did, wanting to "put it all behind" them.
In the clinic, the pain began to intensify and she began to feel more and more sick. The doctor has not made it in yet, so this is going on in the waiting room apparently. Williams recalls the pain becoming very intense and grabbing the armrests of her chair.
OK, now here is where the rocket science comes in...in my opinion, any women would have seen and known EXACTLY what is about to happen! The receptionist and the rest of the staff kept asking her to sit down and close her legs, as she had her heels on the edge of the seat in a squatting position. She couldn't comply, the pain was too great.
Then, she delivered her baby, Shanice, onto the recliner chair cushion right there! She jumped up immediately and turned away, not wanting to look.
"She wasn’t moving much. Twitching, gasping for air. She wasn’t crying though, just hissing. Hissing sounds only," She remembers, "I thought it would be a blob thing, but bigger, not a baby," she said. "She looked like a Water Baby. Like those dolls you fill up with water. She was really little, like this," she said, holding her hands about 12 inches apart.
Then, Gonzales, the owner of the clinic, who has no medical license, cut the cord and put Shanice's body in the bio hazard bag, and tossing it in the trashcan.
She remembers begging God to forgive her! They only would give her Motrin for pain because the Doctor had not arrived, and everyone seemed to be in a panic.
The Doctor arrived an hour after the delivery according to the lawsuit, and gave her a shot for pain / sleep. She awoke after the procedure in complete shock, and was sent home.
She told her boyfriend in the car on the way home that She did not think that the baby was dead. "What do you mean? Are you sure??" he asked.
The Homicide dept was tipped off the next day by an anonymous caller, and went to Williams house and questioned her, and then July 22 had a search warrant for the clinic. They didn't find the baby until 6 days later, decomposing, in a box in a closet.
Sycloria Williams says that no one ever used the word baby or anything like that! They only used words like "termination", "pregnancy", "termination of pregnancy", "procedure" and the like. "They cheated me because they didn’t tell me everything and the doctor wasn’t there," she said.
After it was confirmed in November of 2008, that the baby was born alive, Sycloria Williams finally laid little Shanice to rest in Our Lady Queen of Heaven in Ft. Lauderdale. Her casket was escorted by the honor guard of Hialeah Police Officers and Knights of Columbus.
Sycloria Williams has advice for those women out there who are considering abortion or who have unplanned pregnancies: "I would tell them not to do it. I’ll say whatever to make them have second thoughts so they don’t do it... There is help out there."
**For my 2 cents: This is a tragedy. We can read this devastation and think this can never happen again. Wake up America. Mr. President more than likely slipped it into his 1400 page joke book (stimulus bill) that this sort of thing is ok. Who knows what is or is not in there about this sort of thing. is a frightening thing. We look at our children, at their silly little smiles, and wonder what the world would be like without them... Then you have the 'Mrs. Gonzales' of the world, who have no problem swooping in with their bio hazard bags. Oh but, I will say it again, rest easy America. Mr. President's got your back.**
The Florida Catholic article makes clear that the case of Shanice Denise Osbourne has unveiled a vast network of abortion-related medical malpractice: two co-workers at the Hialeah center were arrested for the unlicensed practice of medicine, two doctors who performed abortions at that clinic were found to be unlicensed and the Florida Department of Health filed an order of "emergency restriction" against Dr. Pierre Jean-Jacque Renelique and later revoked his medical license.
